Mameigwess LakeThe name Mameigwess stems from a particular Native American legend. Apparently a rock shelf existed along the shore line that was either at, or just under the waters surface. Waves that were lapping against this shelf caused a rather peculiar sound, which the natives believed to be the voice of he lake god calling out. the name Mameigwess refers to this god. fish species present in the lake include Lake trout, pickerel(walleye), northern pike, muskie, burbot(lawyer fish), lake whitefish, and perch.
